Fashion Show

Are you dying to show off your blackest velvet or lacey frock? Have you a favorite shade of crimson matte lipstick or tall, skull buckle boots you wanna strut down our catwalk on?

Now’s your chance! Menagerie fans would LOVE to see ALL the decades and genres of beautiful Goth culture on display during our 3rd Annual World Goth Day Festival. Every fashionista will have their moment to taffy dance to their favorite goth tune, draped in black or pastel and show the entire Bay Area what it means to be gothtastique!

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!!

Here are the requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older with a valid ID or be accompanied by a parent/guardian*

  • Choose 3 top songs to walk the catwalk

  • Submit requested information by the due date

  • Couples, teens, all genders are encouraged to apply

Selected participants will receive 2 Concert Tickets (market entry included) and a swag bag from the fashion show, and event t-shirt.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, include pictures with your submission, or even your social media page (not required but is encouraged). This fashion show is nearly all-inclusive as we do ask that you are at least 12+ to walk our catwalk (we are limiting the under 18 category to 5 entrants).

If you’ve already purchased an a la carte market ticket, are undecided, or want to add the tour at a later time you can upgrade at the event or on their website for an additional cost. We've kept our market fee affordable for any circumstance.

Our band of misfits is traveling to the charming little town of Nevada City. Nestled in the Sierra Foothills, surrounded by legends and lore, we invite you to explore the mysteries of our Menagerie.

Shop STRANGE home decor, bugs, bones, taxidermy, dark art, UNIQUE fine jewelry, medical specimens, antiques, natural science and BIZARRE collectibles, tarot reading, henna tattoos, and all kinds of WEIRD delights!

We're excited to present Dr. Paul Koudounaris as our guest speaker (photographer and author of The Empire of Death, Heavenly Bodies, Memento Mori and A Cat's Tale) PLUS hourly performances by the Dragonettes w/ DJ Alex El Veterano and other live acts!

MOUSE TAXIDERMY CLASS & BEETLE PINNING CLASS - The Menagerie is pleased to offer classes taught by artist and professional taxidermist, Classic Mouse Parade. Masks required, and will be provided if needed. Safety protocols, including masks and gloves, are necessary when working with dead things or chemicals. All mice and insects were obtained legally and sustainably. No part of any animal will be wasted for the sake of taxidermy. All “insides” feed reptiles. All “outsides” make art!

International best-selling author, Dacre Stoker, returns to the West Coast to Celebrate 125 Years of Dracula with special presentations and lectures.

The Menagerie is pleased to kick off the tour with a weekend filled with fascinating folklore and dark art.

Friday 6:00-10:00pm

VIP: 125 Years of Dracula Dinner & Movie w/ Dacre Stoker ~ Be our guest during an intimate dinner with Dacre as he guides you through the pages behind Bram‘s legendary tale leading into a private screening of the 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula film.

VIP ticket includes meet & greet with Dacre, a commemorative tour pin (125 ANNIVERSARY pin), dinner, and a ticket to Saturday’s Vampire market.

Vampire Market - ‘tis the year of the Vampire and the season of the witch. We’ve curated a dark art market featuring artists from near and far with 50 vampy artists selling alluring trinkets & treasures to darken your castle halls for this Halloween. Admission also includes a meet & greet and book signings with Dacre Stoker.

Taxidermy Classes - The Menagerie is pleased to offer two sessions of “The Vampire Mouse” taxidermy class taught by local artist and professional taxidermis, Classic Mouse Parade. (Ages 14+ NO exceptions)

Readings w/Dacre - Join Dacre for readings from Bram Stoker’s Dracula with anecdotal notes and Q&A. This is an intimate reading and great way to experience excerpts from the novel.

You’re invited to the 1st market of its kind in the State Capitol of California at the Tsakopoulous Library Galleria in Sacramento!

Witness the ODD, the CURIOUS, the WEIRDness of our Menagerie… We’ve curated a market featuring 50+ vendors selling extraordinary wares! Find bones, bugs, taxidermy, dark art, unique jewelry, medical specimens, natural science, and all kinds of freakish delights!

Our spectacular event features butterfly pinning workshops and entertainment from the likes of SkyHigh Odditorium, DJ Dire, DJ DUC (Duke Jones) with his phanstastic organ pipe ensemble, and Dj Chat Noir.

 

BUTTERFLY PINNING WORKSHOP

Artist Deni Kendig of Sparrowsongs will host 3 amazing workshops on butterfly pinning during our spectacular event! Students will learn how to ethically source specimens, the basics of entomology, and best ways to spread, mount & care for them so they can create beautiful art or have a fabulous collection of their own. Workshop materials include: Spreading board, pins, paper, forceps, and container w/2-3 Butterflies; Kids under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. This class is NOT recommended for children under the age of 8.

2nd Annual Victorian Oddities Market, Camron-Standford House Museum - Oakland, CA

Step back in time for an afternoon of Victorian inspired Oddities and freakish delights in the lovely, shaded garden of the last standing Victorian on Lake Merritt. We’ve hand selected twenty-five of the finest vendors who craft uniquely bizarre art, curiosities, and antiques from the Victorian era.

Theatrics, entertainment & music will be provided for your amusement!

Join us in period dress for a costume contest with fabulous prizes, a raffle benefitting the Camron-Stanford House Museum, Tarot, and Henna ~ come join our Menagerie!


 Admission Tickets

Market tickets include admission to our oddities market, entry to Camron-Stanford House Museum with the featured Victorian exhibit, "Gadgets Galore" and wristband for re-entry. This is a fundraising event! Half of the proceeds from general admission tickets will be donated to the Camron-Stanford House.

TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE DOOR ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT!

VIP Early Entry 10am | $20

Avoid the crowd and buy a VIP ticket to shop before the market opens to the general public. Includes a Menagerie tote bag and commemorative gift. Very limited quantity of tickets available.

Sit down & unwind at a whimsical tea table set atop the veranda of the Camron-Stanford house overlooking the lovely rose garden and Lake Merritt. Enjoy a pot of tea of your choosing, an assortment of sandwiches, classic scones w/ jam & lemon curd, a refreshing small salad (mixed greens, olive oil & balsamic dressing, salt & pepper, goat cheese, green apple, glazed nuts), mixed seasonal fruits, & a delightful selection of sweets.

Vegan option includes an assortment of gluten free crackers, bread, seasonal fruits & veggies, vegan cheeses, and sweets.

Tea Selections (lemon, local honey, cream and sugar will be available):

Peculiar we know, but then, you were invited to “join us in all things ODD.” For larger parties, please contact us after you purchase your tickets. This is a formal tea service, please be on time as the session ends promptly when noted for the next group of patrons. Pinkies up!

In true Victorian fortune-telling fashion, tea leaf readings will also be offered on the veranda for a nominal fee.

Blue Victrola is a contracted service to enhance your experience during our Victorian Oddities show. Their resume includes the Secret Garden and Edwardian Ball. All ticket proceeds after taxes & fees go directly to Blue Victrola. A 20% gratuity is INCLUDED the cost of your Tea Service. Oddities market is not included. Don’t forget to purchase your market tickets!!

Foods are prepped in and around areas which may come in contact with eggs, nuts, and dairy products. Due to the logistics and nature of our event, we are UNABLE to accommodate people with food allergies at this time.
